Overview
01

A diagnosis is a hypothesis about your life. It deserves more than fifteen minutes.

Adult Psychiatry at Zen Psychiatry

Most adults arriving here have been treated before. Often more than once, sometimes for years, and frequently for the wrong thing. The intake is built to catch that: a full history — developmental, medical, family, substance, trauma, sleep, and the actual sequence of what was tried and what happened — before any prescription is written.

What comes out of it is a formulation rather than a label. Why these symptoms, in this person, now. That reasoning is explained to you in plain language, because a treatment plan you do not understand is a treatment plan you will stop.

From there, care is ongoing rather than episodic. Medication where it earns its place, psychotherapy referral where that is the better lever, and lifestyle work — sleep, movement, substances, structure — treated as clinical variables rather than advice tacked onto the end of a visit.

Who this is for
01

First time in psychiatry

You have never been evaluated, and want the assessment done properly the first time rather than a prescription off a screening questionnaire.

02

Treated, but not better

You have been on medication for months or years without the response you were told to expect, and nobody has revisited whether the diagnosis was right.

03

Stable, and want to stay that way

You are doing well and need a psychiatrist who will actually manage the long arc — dose changes, life changes, and knowing when to taper.

How it runs
01

The evaluation

A long first appointment. Full psychiatric and medical history, prior trials and their outcomes, family history, and what a normal week actually looks like for you.

02

The formulation

We tell you what we think is going on and why, what the alternatives are, and what would change our mind. You leave knowing the reasoning, not just the plan.

03

The trial

Treatment starts with a defined target and a defined review point. If something is not working by the time it should be, we change it rather than wait it out.

04

The long arc

Visits spread out as things stabilise. The plan is revisited when your life shifts — a new job, a pregnancy, a loss, a new medical diagnosis.

Common questions

What patients ask about adult psychiatry.

If yours is not here, ask it directly — we would rather answer before an appointment than after one.

Ask a question

The initial evaluation is substantially longer than a follow-up visit, because a full history takes time to take properly. Follow-up appointments are shorter and scheduled around where you are in treatment.
